Schemes of Work
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 pupils receive one lesson of Art and Design per week. Homework for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 can be found on the “Show My Homework” website. The department is open most afternoons after lessons to allow pupils to pursue class work, personal projects or to make use of the facilities to complete homework.
Year 7 Term 1
Pattern Design- Underwater Project
Project – In this project you will be producing a repeat pattern design using fish as your theme.
To do this (for homework) you will need to collect images of fish and examples of decorative images and repeat patterns.
We will start the project by producing careful objective studies of fish and then develop these images into decorative designs and then finally a repeat pattern.
You will be using pencil, colour pencil and paint in this project.
OUTCOMES –
- Two pencil studies of fish (objective studies)
- A set of decorative fish images that you have developed, with different colour schemes.
- A final pencil line drawing of a decorative fish image.
- Experiments with repeat patterns (using tracing paper)
- Experiments with colour schemes
- Your final design in paint and pencil.
Year 8 Term 1

Year 9 Term 1

Key Stage 4 GCSE
Please note a range of different projects are set by the departments teachers and below is an example of one project.
Year 10 Term 1
- African Art Project – Mask Design.
- Pupil Outcomes –
- Assessment objective 3 – 20 worth 20marks.
- Record ideas and observations – Make drawings/copies of African mask, African images and decorative patterns make notes about what you see and about African masks and there uses.
- Assessment objective 2 – 20 worth marks.
- Experiment with different media and techniques produce pencil drawings, cut-out designs and paintings, developing ideas for mask designs and decorative work.
- Assessment objective 1 – worth 20 marks.
- Develop your own ideas for-1. A life size mask design and 2.a decorative painting using the information you have collected about Africa, refine your ideas experimenting with colour ways and composition. Make notes about your ideas.
- Assessment objective 4 – worth 20 marks.
- Present a personal response –
- 1. Produce a decorative painting on the theme of Africa
- 2. Design and make your own life size African mask.
