On Monday 25th January 2016, our Year 9 Premiership Challenge Enterprise team had the amazing opportunity to meet some VIPs at Everton FC’s Finch Farm training ground. Upon arrival, students and staff were very excited to find that the VIPs were none other than Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne and Microsoft founder Bill Gates! Their visit was to raise awareness of global efforts to tackle malaria. Our school’s team was the only one present at this event after being selected to represent Everton Football Club in the next heat of the Premiership Enterprise Challenge. They will go on to compete with teams from schools across the country, representing the other premiership league football clubs on Thursday 4th February.
The morning began with some nervous waiting and a quick change into some Sports Relief T-shirts, followed by the arrival of the guests. Knowsley Park student Michael then proved to be unflappable as he calmly explained our team’s enterprise idea to Mr Osbourne who seemed suitably impressed. Our students then admirably overcame their nerves as they got to greet and shake hands with Bill Gates. Finally the morning was rounded up with lots of photos with the Everton players and manager. What an unforgettable day, and one we were all so glad not to have missed!
